Nicole Kim, MA

Mrs. Kim earned her BA from the University of California, San Diego. She received her teaching credential and Master’s degree in Teaching from the Graduate School at the University of California, Irvine. She has a professional Single Subject clear teaching credential in Mathematics.
Mrs. Kim has taught for 16 years. She served as the GATE Program Coordinator, School Site Council Member, 8th grade Math Department , Common Core Algebra I Curriculum Site Leader, FBLA advisor, and Math Counts Competition Coordinator while she taught at Rancho Pico Junior High School.
Mrs. Kim formerly taught at the School of Advanced Studies at Nobel Middle School in Northridge prior to Rancho Pico Junior High with our own outstanding Math teacher Mr. Brady Burrill. Mrs. Kim is looking forward to working with Mr. Burrill on the Algebra 2/ Trig. curriculum and with the outstanding West Ranch Math Department on Algebra I this coming year.
Mrs. Kim is currently serving as an invited Middle School Math Specialist at UCLA Curtis Center for Department of Math and Teaching. There, she instructs middle school teachers how to implement Common Core curriculum effectively in their classes. The UCLA Curtis Center is also currently writing the Performance Task for the 2016-2017 school year field test, and Mrs. Kim is serving as one of the Performance Task authors along with professors from the UCLA Department of Math. As Smarter Balance is modifying the Performance Task for the 2017 test, Mrs. Kim is excited to share the progress with our hard working West Ranch Math department.
When not teaching, Mrs. Kim loves spending time with her two daughters and husband. She also enjoys researching on math education related resources and reading History of Math. On her off days, she is also the business manager for her husband’s orthodontic practice. Mrs. Kim feels privileged to live her childhood dream as a teacher and strives to encourage high school students with her enthusiasm and passion for teaching.
